There are utilitarians out there who claim we should devote most of our resources to other species if that's where their calculation leads.
Put simply, the altruist asks “can’t everybody just get along”, and the answer is “everybody doesn’t just”.
The world at large doesn’t “just”. If your question supposed that we “ought just”, you “ought just” never speak publicly again, your naïveté is a detriment to your kin (of who you probably have no conception in relation to your universalist sentiments).
